Where to go from here?
Forward, of course!
After spending the majority of my life supporting different ministries, all with a focus on music, I have finally come to fully understand and appreciate what I realized 30 years ago. God has called me to music ministry. But, after spending my life in the corporate world, what does this mean today? Certainly there is great value in serving my local church and its music ministries, but that does not mean that my calling is limited to a few hours, two weekends a month.
I've been around long enough to hear... well, just about everything. Being in church from the time I was old enough to remember, having a degree in Worship Ministry, serving on worship teams for 35 years and being on staff at my local church for some years, I'd guess I've heard over 2,000 live, in person, biblically based messages over the course of my life.
One of the more popular ideas thrown at people who are discouraged with what they have become, is that Paul was a tent-maker by day, and a minister by night. The reality (based on some brief scriptural references) is just the opposite in my view. He only did his day job as a means to enable his ministry. This actually makes him MORE of a full-time minister than people who did it in a traditional full-time scenario, because of what he was willing to sacrifice for the purpose and calling on his life.
Imagine working your current full-time job, and taking every bit of that money to buy meager food and basic shelter to survive, all because you wanted to be as effective and available as possible to fulfill your calling! No vacations, no streaming media subscriptions, no cool new car payments.
Was Paul a tentmaker?
- Yes.
Was that who he was?
- Absolutely not.
I imagine him spending his days making great tents, while constantly thinking, praying and meditating, so that when the time came, he would be ready to fulfill his calling in the best way he was able. Where is your focus today? Lay down that distorted view of yourself, and see what God sees. He looks at you through the sacrifice of Jesus, which makes you a perfect, intentional, purposeful, unique, powerful, entitled son or daughter of God.
You are not a mistake.
You are not a failure.
You are not forsaken.
God's love and favor on your life is perfect and complete, just like it is for all his children. This means you are His favorite! He wants to accomplish his purpose through you in ways you haven't yet thought of.
What could be better than that?
Lean into your purpose today.
